The main difference between infrared saunas and traditional saunas is how they use heat. Traditional saunas use a single heater that is heating the air and this hot air heats the user. In contrast, infrared saunas use advanced therapy to heat the user directly with only a small percentage of the heat heating the air. This results in a deeper sweat and at a lower ambient air temperature. In fact, infrared saunas usually operate between 115° – 135°F, while traditional saunas can get up to 195°F.

You will get all of the relaxation benefits of a traditional infrared sauna along with the increased health benefits that infrared offers all at a much more comfortable temperature. Infrared saunas are also dry saunas and many users find this makes for a more comfortable sauna session.

Infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. Infrared heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally. Traditional saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. Infrared saunas work differently. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, infrared saunas heat the body directly. The result is deeper tissue penetration. In an infrared sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna.

Botulinum toxin is a temporary muscle relaxant. It works by blocking chemical signals from nerves preventing the muscles from contracting. This prevents the skin from folding therefore prevent creases from occurring. Botulinum toxin is also used to treat hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating not related to heat or exercise. TMJ is treated with botulinum. This relaxes our masseter muscle to prevent pain and discomfort from grinding and clenching our jaw

Dermal filler is made of hyaluronic acid which is a sugar molecule found in our connective tissue. It works by drawing water toward itself therefore giving us the filling affect. Filler can be used to enhance or restore volume.

My passion is being able to help others get back to doing what they love as soon as possible. As a competitive athlete myself, I understand the frustrations of being pulled away from your sport and wanting to get back as quickly as possible. This passion drives my treatments that are individualized to achieve the patient’s goals based on the injury. Treatments involve a variety of manual techniques alongside exercise therapy where I focus on correcting biomechanical faults in order to fix the problem and prevent the injury from re-occurring. I focus on educating the patient during treatments to help them better understand their injury and how to help manage it at home.

When I am not at the clinic, I am at Loyalist College treating the varsity athletes and covering the games and practices. Away from work, I can be found enjoying the outdoors by backpacking or kayak camping. I also enjoy all sports but specifically hockey, soccer, and running

Hi! I’m Nicole. I’ve always wanted to bring warm, loving hugs and healing to the world and in 2008 I started to learn the art of massage therapy. I wouldn’t trade it for the world! Massage therapy treats the body as a whole, and I fundamentally believe that thats more important than just treating the one thing one would notice to be bothersome. When the whole body is relaxed, rested and well, the ailments one will experience will lessen, and the body can heal properly. I’ve also expanded my skill toolbox with reflexology and lymphatic drainage both of these also treat the body as a whole.

I’ve grown up in Brighton, and growing with the town has be a joy to experience. Being a part of a healing culture in our beautiful little town makes me feel more at home than I ever thought possible. I’m so excited to share my passion with you all! I encourage you all to enjoy all the wonderful things life has to offer!

It is my goal to provide a safe space for you to continue (or start) your wellness journey. I continue to seek educational opportunities to make my practice Trauma-Informed and inclusive to all who trust me with their care.

I use a combination of relaxation and therapeutic techniques to ease your body towards healing and well-being. I believe that relaxation is just as important as release of “tight muscles” and therefore aim to both calm your nervous system and challenge problem areas to stimulate tissue release and overall healing.

I am trained in relaxation and therapeutic techniques including: Swedish Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), Pregnancy Massage, Fascial Techniques, Trigger Point Therapy, Aromatherapy, and Cupping Therapy. I use a variety of assessments and techniques to provide therapeutic massage tailored to the individual needs of my clients and continue to seek our educational opportunities to expand my knowledge-base and better serve you.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you to facilitate your healing!

A little more About Me

Although I have lived many places, I think I will always be a small town girl at heart. I moved to Colborne in November 2019 and am loving all that Northumberland has to offer.

I have always had an interest in helping people and naturally gravitated toward healthcare. I discovered quickly that the ‘blood and guts’ side of medicine wasn’t for me and concentrated my initial studies in rehabilitation sciences. I eventually found myself in office based rehabilitation case co-ordination work, but always felt something was missing. And then I found Massage Therapy!

Massage Therapy was a career path that intrigued me. It offered a tremendous base of knowledge and an opportunity to work one-on-one with individuals to facilitate positive outcomes in their physicality and well-being. I was hooked!

I completed my training at the Canterbury College of Natural Medicine in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2009. On my return to Canada, I gained my registration with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and am also a member of the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario (RMTAO). As mentioned above, I continue to seek out new learning opportunities to further my knowledge-base and better treat you!

It is my goal to provide a safe space for you to continue (or start) your wellness journey. I con... Read More

Hi, my name is Melinda LaPorte and I am one of the Registered Dental Hygienist at Whole Health! I moved to Brighton with my family when I was 10 years old and attended Brighton Public School. From there I continued on to ENSS and became a Blue Dragon! Having no idea what to do after graduation I decided to take a year off and explore my options. I ran into an old friend who told me about the course she was taking as a Dental Assistant. This struck my curiosity so much that I went home and enrolled for Dental Assisting at Maxwell College.  After a few years working as a certified dental assistant in Colborne, town of the Big Apple, I loved it so much I continued on to pursue my career in Dental Hygiene. I graduated in 2008 as a Registered Dental Hygienist and continued to care for my clients at Colborne Family Dental.    12 years and a whole lot of experience later I continued my journey from a new position… I took an excited leap and left Colborne after 17 years and joined Whole Health in Brighton on February 1st 2020 where I now practices as an independent, self-initiated dental hygienist. Transitioning into Whole Health has been an ease to say the least. I am surrounded by incredible, compassionate, career driven women. I am working in a positive and uplifting atmosphere and I couldn’t be more delighted. I have had many of my past clients follow me here and have taken on so many new smiles. I am so grateful to be working in my home town where I grew up and I look forward to seeing so many familiar faces in the years to come!

Hello, my name is Dr. Tessa van Leeuwen-Tyler. I am originally from the small town of Simcoe in southern Ontario where I grew up on a dairy farm with my five siblings. As you can imagine, it was endlessly busy in my house. I have a strong appreciation for family and it continues to be one of my core values as an adult. I attended the University of Ottawa where I acquired my Bachelor of Science with Specialization in Human Kinetics. I enjoyed playing varsity volleyball and was introduced to the world of ultimate frisbee. I played on the University Ultimate Frisbee team as well as on a women’s competitive team for three years. I continue to play ultimate Frisbee and volleyball in the Durham region. It has always been my passion to help people live a long and happy life and when I was introduced to chiropractic I knew that was my calling. It is the vision for optimal health and wellness and the belief in the power of the human body that amazed me and lead me to pursue a career in chiropractic. I left Ottawa and moved to Toronto to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. While at Chiropractic College I became interested in the care of prenatal and pediatric patients. I was given the opportunity to work with patients diagnosed with a variety of development disabilities at the Aptus Treatment Center. This is where I learned the importance of chiropractic care for children and adults suffering from a wide range of neurological conditions. I am currently completing further training with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) to better serve my patients. My passion for working with kids and adults alike continues to grow as I learn more about the benefits of chiropractic care and it’s importance in attaining a vibrant and happy life. I am blessed to be working in a wonderful, family-friendly chiropractic office with others who share a passion for wellness and finding the root cause of problems. I see firsthand the healing that families are able to achieve through chiropractic care and it is my mission is to save lives through the power of Chiropractic. In 2016, I married my wonderful husband Jeff in a beautiful beach ceremony in the warm (and stormy) Dominican Republic. We learned early that we share a passion for being outside and active, playing frisbee, fishing, and walking our dog, Piper. We also love to travel and are eager to explore new places together. When I moved to Quinte West, I fell in love with the region for its endless activities, numerous trails, green spaces, lakes, and amazing community vibe. I am so proud to be part of this community and I look forward to serving you and your family in your growth toward an optimal, healthy, and wonderful life. Dr. Tessa
